Irina Chernomurova

Musicologist, Theatre scholar, Honorary Professor of GITIS, Honored Art Worker of the Russian Federation
Irina Chernomurova was born on September 9, 1956, in Moscow. She graduated from a music college and the Department of Theatre Studies of the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS).
For over seventeen years, she headed the Department of International and Public Relations of the Moscow Academic Music Theatre named after K.S. Stanislavsky and Vl.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko. She managed touring projects for the opera company to the USA, Italy, China, South Korea, Latvia, Greece, the Mariinsky Theatre, and cities across Russia (Yekaterinburg, Voronezh, Rostov-on-Don); and for the ballet company to Italy, Germany, Greece, the USA, China, Japan, Latvia, London, and St. Petersburg. She was the initiator and manager of exchange tour projects with the Hamburg Ballet under the direction of J. Neumeier and the Deutsche Oper am Rhein.
She was a producer of co-production projects staged at the theatre: with France – Debussy's "Pelléas et Mélisande"; with the English National Opera (ENO) – Britten's "A Midsummer Night's Dream"; with Teatro Verdi (Italy) – Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin"; and the ballet "Tatiana" choreographed by John Neumeier in collaboration with the Hamburg Ballet under J. Neumeier. She attracted choreographers Jiří Kylián, Nacho Duato (for the first time in Russia), and John Neumeier (whose ballets "The Seagull" and "The Little Mermaid" were staged in Russia for the first time) to collaborate with the theatre. She produced ballet projects including "Napoli," "Mayerling," and "Manon"; and in opera – "Aida" directed by Peter Stein.
She was one of the organizers of the International Festival of Contemporary Dance DanceInversion, and from 2009 served as its Artistic Director.
From 1978 to 1988, she worked at the Bakhrushin State Central Theatre Museum, where in the position of Deputy Director for Research, she oversaw the creation of exhibitions and installations.
She is the author of articles on musical theatre and management.
Since 1988, she has been engaged in teaching: as an Associate Professor in the Department of Stage Arts Management at GITIS and an Associate Professor at Moscow State University (MSU) named after M.V. Lomonosov. She conducts specialized lecture courses at the Moscow Art Theatre (MKHAT) School-Studio and the Higher School under the direction of G. Dadamyan.
From 2014 to 2023, she headed the Department of Strategic Planning and Special Projects of the Bolshoi Theatre.
