On February 5th at 7:00 PM, at the TheatreHD Opera Club in GUM Cinema, we will watch The Queen of Spades (Pique Dame) from the Bavarian State Opera stage. This is a dynamic and daring production by director Benedict Andrews. In the role of Lisa – the brilliant, exquisite, and fearless Asmik Grigorian!
The screening will be introduced by Irina Chernomurova, a distinguished Russian music and theatre scholar, and Honored Art Worker of the Russian Federation.

The renowned Australian director Benedict Andrews, famed for his Shakespeare productions, plumbs the darkest depths of the human soul in this noir-inflected 1990s tale of a descent into the abyss. With her striking blonde hair, Asmik Grigorian resembles not so much a nineteenth-century ingénue as a blend of Adele and Marilyn Monroe. She has captivated critics and audiences alike, who were enthralled by her honeyed, heart-piercing voice and her unforgettable heroine. Asmik's Lisa is a strong woman with her own yearnings and dreams, making a conscious choice and captivating all with her magnetic presence.
With Irina Chernomurova, we will discuss the secrets of this "Pique Dame" production – its exceptional cast and performers, its bold take on a renowned classic, and, of course, Tchaikovsky’s ever-brilliant music.
